CAIRO – 31 December 2017: Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the money spent in the summer for signings does not make up for the gap between Manchester clubs City and United this season.

“There is a flaw in Jose Mourinho’s argument that the difference between Manchester United and Manchester City is money. If Pep Guardiola was in charge of the United squad, I believe they would win the title,” Carragher stated to Telegraph on Saturday.

Guardiola had an amazing season with the blue side of Manchester, Manchester City. They are leading the Premier League after 20 fixtures with 15 points clear without losing a game.

On the red side of Manchester, Manchester United are suffering under Jose Mourinho’s command, and they are placed second in the Premier League due to poor performances. Mourinho believes that Manchester City’s signings in the summer are the reason behind Guardiola’s upper hand, according to Dailymail.

Carragher doubted Mourinho’s coaching abilities, saying, “Have they [Man United players] improved under Mourinho? That is the troubling question for the United manager. It is starting to sound like he has no patience or will to make what he has better.”

Carragher praised Guardiola, saying, “City are ahead this season because Guardiola has developed players rather than expected ready-made talent to instantly deliver.”

Gaurdiola and Mourinho had a long-term rivalry since Gaurdiola was chosen over Mourinho to manage Barcelona in 2009.
