CAIRO – 16 December 2017: RFEF acting president, Juan Luis Larrea said that “we haven't received any warnings from FIFA, just a letter explaining that some within FIFA are requesting an investigation."

The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced on Friday that they will investigate the complaint from the suspended President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Angel Maria Villar, about political interference in the RFEF which is against the FIFA regulations.

He minimized the impacts of the threats, saying “Nobody is going to throw Spain out of the World Cup, that's impossible, FIFA simply wants to know what is happening. I'm absolutely convinced Spain will go to the World Cup in Russia, furthermore, I am convinced we will win it.”

FIFA are uncomfortable with the Higher Council for Sports in Spain meddling with the RFEF and their investigations could exclude Spain from the World Cup in Russia.

FIFA suspended Kuwait from the international competition for more than two years for the same reasons.
