CAIRO - 14 December 2017: Mahmoud Mahgoub, head of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation, confirmed that Abeer Abdel Rahman will be awarded a silver medal from the London Olympic Games during the Arab Weightlifting Championship, which will be hosted by Egypt from December 18 to 23 at the covered halls complex of the Cairo International Stadium.

Mahgoub added that the Minister of Youth and Sports Khalid Abdel Aziz and Egyptian sports officials will be invited to attend Abdel Rahman's Olympic medal ceremony, according to Super Kora.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will award the silver medal to the Egyptian champion after three contenders from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan had been tested positive for doping.

Abeer Abdel Rahman is the first Egyptian woman to win an Olympic medal in the 75 kilogram weightlifting event; she finished fifth in the 2012 London Olympic Games; the top three women were stripped of their medals for doping.
