CAIRO – 9 December 2017: Egyptian windsurfer Salma el-Ashmawy qualified for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games that will be held in Argentina. Ashmawy won second place in the windsurfing Techno Plus competition, which took place in Ras Sedr from November 27 to December 2.

Ashmawy started windsurfing in 2016, and this year she participated for the first time in an international competition.

The Techno Plus for juniors under 19 serves as a qualifier for the Youth Olympics.

It’s worth mentioning that Khouloud Mansy is the first Egyptian female windsurfer to represent Egypt in the Youth Olympics after participating in Nanjing, China in 2014, and Salma will be the second person to represent Egypt in the next Youth Olympics.

Windsurfing is a surface water sport in Egypt and combines aspects of both sailing and surfing, along with certain athletic aspects shared with other board sports like skateboarding, snowboarding or waterskiing.

The Red Sea offers a lot of fantastic places for beginners and experienced windsurfers to practice the sport.
