CAIRO – 1 October 2017: Las Palmas biggest star, Jonathan Viera spoke about the current Barcelona situation on Sunday ahead of his team’s game against Barcelona that is to be held on the same day as Catalonia’s independence referendum.

The game is will be held at Camp Nou Stadium in Catalonia Capital, Barcelona.

“I do not think anyone imagines a league without them. It will be talked about but they will come to an agreement, because the two parties have no interest in this happening," Viera told Marca.

Las Palmas’ game against Barcelona is threatened with clashes between the Spanish police and Catalans who want to vote in the referendum, but are banned by the Spanish government.

Viera added, “Everyone is free to do what they want, the only thing we ask is that nothing happens within the context of the match, because it's a sport and has nothing to do with politics."

Viera praised Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, saying, “There is only one Messi and I don't think we'll ever see another. He is the best of all.”

Vieira is a Las Palmas academy product, he left the club in 2012 to join Valencia and his first game in the League with Valencia was against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Vieira returned to Las Palmas in 2015 and since then became a regular at Barcelona’s squad.
