Cuper announces the Egyptian squad that will face Congo

CAIRO – 26 September 2017: Egypt’s manager, Hector Cuper, has announced on Tuesday the Egyptian national team`s squad that will face Congo at Borg El Arab stadium on Sunday, October 8, for the World Cup qualifiers.

The Argentinian coach has included 15 foreign-based players in addition to 10 locally-based players.

Ali Gabr, Zamalek`s defender, is featured in the list despite the fact that he didn’t participate in any of Zamalek`s matches in the Egyptian league. He just returned to the field after recovering from an injury.

The list included:
(GK) Sherif Ekramy (Al Ahly), Ahmed El-Shennawy (Zamalek), Essam El-Hadary (Al Taawoun);
(DEF) Ahmed Fathi (Al Ahly), Ali Gabr (Zamalek), Saad Samir (Al Ahly), Rami Rabia (Al Ahly), Karim Hafez (RC Lens), Ahmed Elmohamady (Aston Villa), Mohamed Abdel-Shafy (Al Ahli), Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich), Omar Gaber (FC Basel);
(MID) Tarek Hamed (Zamalek), Sam Morsy (Wigan Athletic), Hossam Ashour (Al Ahly), Abdallah El-Said (Al Ahly), Saleh Gomaa (Al Ahly) Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim Kahraba (Al Ittihad), Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet (Kasımpaşa), Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke City), Mostafa Fathi (Al Taawoun);
(ATT) Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Ahmed Hassan Kouka (SC Braga), Amr Gamal (Bidvest Wits).

The national team will host Congo on Sunday, October 8 at Borg El Arab stadium in Alexandria at 19:00 CLT, while Uganda will be up against Ghana on Saturday, October 7 at Mandela National stadium in Kampala.

Egypt tops Group E with nine points, two points ahead of Uganda who comes second, while Ghana is placed third with five points and Congo at the bottom with only one point.
