CAIRO - 14 September 2017: Argentina achieved their first victory at the FIVB U23 Women’s World Championship, defeating Egypt 4-3 in a tough game Thursday.

Argentina started the game well, winning the first two sets 15-10 and 15-6. Egypt tried to make a comeback in the third round, only to lose again 16-14.

Egypt’s comeback in the game began in earnest in the fourth set. Egypt won three consecutive sets 16-14, 15-13, 15-11 and the Egyptian team was on their way to a historic win.

Argentina however dashed Egypt’s hopes when they won the seventh set 15-11, winning the game 4-3.

Egyptian players, Aya Elshamy and Doaa Elghobashy, had the best performance in the game; Elshamy scored 15 points while Elghobashy scored 12.

Egypt plays in Group A alongside Argentina, Slovenia, Thailand, Dominican Republic and China.

Egypt won only one game in the group over Thailand on Tuesday; the Egyptian team lost three games against Dominican Republic, China and Argentina respectively.

Egypt faces the host nation, Slovenia, in their last group game on Friday.

Slovenia is hosting the FIVB U23 Women’s World Championship from September 10 to 17.
