CAIRO – 14 September 2017: Former Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini has called his time at Real Madrid the most painful period in his career.

Pellegrini is now in charge of Hebei China Fortune FC, a Chinese club. He revealed that he didn`t enjoy his tenure at Real Madrid, as he failed to win the Spanish League (La Liga), despite having finished the season with 96 points.

"The period at Real Madrid was the most painful of my career. The team wasn't complete, and I had some obvious problems to deal with," he told Tactical Football.

He claimed, "We did sign some big stars, but we had a lot of forwards and few midfielders, and the players I wanted to keep were sold. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo spent a good portion of the season injured.”

"I'd have liked to have more time, as many players arrived that year and sometimes it takes time for them to gel in the best possible way."

He added, "The Real Madrid squad at that time had great players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema.”

Pellegrini has managed Malaga and Manchester City after being sacked from Real Madrid. However, he enjoyed his time there, as he reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with Malaga. Then, He earned the Premier League and two Capital One cups.
