CAIRO – 6 August 2017: Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger revealed on Wednesday that he refused multiple offers from Manchester City to sign Chilean star Alexis Sanchez despite the player going into the last year of his contract. Sanchez could leave the club next summer for free.

“You take Sanchez into the final year of your contract, you sacrifice £ 60 million -£ 70 million in income and then at the end of the season you will have to buy somebody for that amount of money," Wenger told press on Wednesday.

Arsenal was ready to sell Sanchez only if they could sign Monaco midfielder, Thomas Lemar, but the he refused to join Arsenal.

Wenger added, “so it has a huge price. So at some stage you have to make a decision. You have to sacrifice one or two players.”

Wenger refused to sell Sanchez to Manchester City despite making a different decision in 2012. That year he sold Robin Van Persie to Manchester United under the same circumstances.
