CAIRO – 9 August 2017: FC Barcelona’s star player Leo Messi gave his jersey to Alan Ruschel, Chapecoense’s airplane crash survivor. The gesture came following Barcelona’s 5-0 victory over Brazilian team Chapecoense in the Juan Gamper trophy on August 7.
Argentinean icon Messi performed the great honoring gesture at the end of the match. He exchanged his jersey with Chapecoense’s Alan Rushel.
Ruschel then wrote on his Instagram account saying, “True happiness comes from humility and from the recognition that we are very small or almost nothing, and life is only complete with the real feeling of love for our neighbor, I am grateful with all my heart for so many blessings, so many successive miracles in my life. Let's live our dreams, we have so little time,” reporting from ESPN.
Barcelona invited Chapecoense to this year’s Juan Gamper tournament in order to pay tribute to the 71 players and staff members who died in a plane crash on November 28, 2016. The team was travelling to participate in Copa Sudamericana’s final in Colombia. The Barcelona also invited Chapecoence to help the team rebuild institutionally and recover to a competitive level. All the money from ticket sales went go to the Brazilian team.
