CAIRO – 6 August 2017: The Spanish professional tennis player Garbine Muguruza Blanco defeated Croatian Anna Konoyah to reach the final of the Stanford Tennis Championships. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old American Catherine Carton Bellis defeated Czech Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-0.

No.1 seed Muguruza easily beat the fifth seeded Konoyah 6-1 6-3 after breaking 19-year-old Konoyah’s lead five times in an hour long match.

“ I think I was very accurate today. Anna is a very strong player and she is an excellent young woman. I knew I had to keep my focus on her,” Muguruza said after her win.
She added, “I had to play in an offensive way, and I’m happy to win the match and it went well in the second set.”

Muguruza confirmed, “I think she did a bit better and made fewer mistakes, which made the game a little more balanced.”

Three Americans qualified for the semifinals: Bellis, Coco Vandevege and Madison keys.

Wimbledon champion Kvitova did not perform twice as much as expected against American Bellis and made many easy mistakes.

This is Kvitova’s fourth championship after her six month absence. She was injured in the left hand during an armed robbery in December.
