CAIRO – 5August 2017: Last season’s world’s best will be crowned in London on 23 October. FIFA will also include the best goalkeeper award for the first time.

On 17 August, 23 players will be named for nomination to win The Best award. The list will be shorten to three players in September. They will announce the winner in London’s ceremony, according to FIFA official website. The winner will be chosen by FIFA experts.

FIFA Deputy Secretary General, Zvonimir Boban told FIFA official website, “The role that goalkeepers play in football is as important as it is specific, even if they often fail to get the recognition they deserve.”

He added, “So that’s why we’re proud to introduce this accolade, we’ll not only be honoring those who score the goals, but also those who play an equally important role in preventing them.”
