CAIRO –17 July 2017: Al-Ahly faces Zamalek on Monday in the last fixture of the Egyptian League. This match is considered one of the biggest games in Africa due to the huge fan base of both clubs.

The match will be played in the Borg El Arab stadium in Alexandria, but without the video assistant referee (VAR), despite the new FIFA technique that has been used in many Egyptian League matches.

“The Scottish officials of the match asked for excluding VAR; they didn’t practice on it, as they don’t use it yet in Scotland,” Essam Abdel Fatah head of the referees committee said to ON Sport.

Abdel Fatah added, “VAR needs practice before being used, so we decided to play the match without using it.”

Willie Coloum, 38 years old from Scotland, will be the referee of the match.

Al-Ahly is the current league champion, and they will face club rivals Zamalek SC on Monday. Zamalek came in third place in the last bracket of the Egyptian League at the Borg El Arab stadium.
