Al Ahly faces Pyramids in the 2020/2021 Egypt Cup

CAIRO, 26 June 2022: Al Ahly is set to face Pyramids at at 9:30 pm on Sunday, at the Cairo International Stadium in the quarterfinals of the 2020/2021 Egypt Cup.

Both teams are seeking to go further in the tournament for the hope of achieving the title.

 

Al Ahly defeated Enppi 1-0 in the 16th round, while Pyramids qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Smouha 3-1.

 

The winner of the Al-Ahly and Pyramids match will qualify to face Petrojet in the semi-finals of the Egypt Cup.

 

The winner of the semi-finals will face Zamalek in the final of the tournament after the White Knights defeated Aswan 2-1.

 

The Egyptian Referees Committee assigned a foreign refereeing team for the match, as requested by the Reds, consisting of Romanian Istvan Kovacs as a referee for the pitch. He will be assisted by Marinescu Vasilim Florin Artin Mihai Ovidiu and Chivulet Andre Florin, and in the “VAR” room, Hungarian Bognar Tamas, and his compatriot will be present.

 

The rivalry between Al Ahly & Pyramids started when the latter signed Abdallah El Said from the Reds. Pyramids continued strengthen their squad by including former Al Ahly players like Ahmed Fathy, Sherif Ekramy, Hussien El Sayed, Mohamed Farouk & Ramadan Sobhy.

 

Since then, the Egyptian football fans were lucky to watch Al Ahly & Pyramids matches together as it’s guaranteed to witness excitement.

 

 

Sami Komsan, the interim coach of Al-Ahly Club, demanded his players to continue the morale that appeared in the Ghazl El-Mahalla match, which the Reds won 2-1.

He stressed the need to win the semi-final qualifying ticket the championship that they hold its title.

Al Ahly will suffer the absence of seven players; they are Ammar Hamdy, Akram Tawfiq, Mikisoni, Hamdi Fathi, Hussein Al-Shahat, Ahmed Abdel Kader and Ayman Ashraf.

 

On the other hand, Pyramids, led by the Greek coach Takis Gonias, enters the match for only winning especially after the recent results, which raised criticisms against the high-spending team.

 

Pyramids is armed with its stars, Ramadan Sobhi, Mahmoud Wadi, Fakhr Eldin Ben Youssef, Walid El Karti and Dunga.
