The Muslim World League launched a number of urgent initiatives that encompassed 16 countries and international organizations to alleviate the effects of the Corona pandemic

The Muslim World League is supporting 16 countries and international organizations to tackle the Corona pandemic.

It is providing intensive care beds, monitoring equipment and oxygen cylinders for hospitals.

It is running convoys laden with food baskets for poor and disadvantaged families and for people in remote villages and orphans.

The Muslim World League launched a number of urgent initiatives that encompassed 16 countries and international organizations to alleviate the effects of the Corona pandemic, based on an urgent response plan in line with the measures of the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the governments of the target countries.

The General Director of Information and Communication; the League's spokesperson, Mr. Abdul Wahab Al-Shehri, affirmed that the Muslim World League has started implementing an inclusive plan to assuage the effects of the "new corona" pandemic in affected countries in the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe.

Al-Shehri said: “In the first stage, the initiatives include 16 Muslim and non-Muslim countries in accordance to the Rabita’s approach guidedby the high values of our Islamic religion that advocate righteousness and munificence for all. His Excellency the SecretaryGeneral of the MWL, Chairman of the Council of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Alissa gave hisdirectives to the Rabita’s officedirectors around the world to implement these campaigns in cooperation with international organizations and governments directly.The League has made sure that its implementation runs in parallel tracks. This include direct financial aid, medical supplies for centers and hospitals, health and preventive and educational supplies, and food aid for vulnerable groups whose pandemic measures have hinderedearning their livelihoods.

He explained that the first track of the MWL initiatives is linked to the direct financial support and includes providing cash support to the World Health Organization, to boost its efforts in alleviating the effects of the pandemic, in addition to financial support for governments, ministries of health and civil protection in a number of needy countries. This step was implemented through the Rabita’s offices around the world, and in concert with its strategic partnerships with governments and international organizations; so the latter willpurchase the necessary medical equipment and health and preventive supplies to fight the epidemic.

The Rabita spokesperson added: “The second track includes providing specialized government hospitals caring for those infected with the coronavirus with special intensive care beds and securing monitoring devices, vital signs measurement, ventilators and oxygen cylinders with their medical attachments.” In addition to the distribution of integrated medical containingmasks and sterilizers, and the distribution of direction leaflets, as well as sterilizing government buildings and institutions.

He added, the initiatives of the third track aim at supporting governments to adhere to the strict measures recommended by the World Health Organization to combat the spread of the pandemic, such as lockdown cities or domestic quarantine. Also, providing food to the poor and disadvantaged communities and people in remote villages and orphans. In addition to the elderly and patients who could no longer leave their homes in light of the spread of the epidemic. To serve those, the Rabita organized daily shuttle truckstaking food baskets to cover the daily needs of families in those areas.

The Muslim World League spokesperson pointed out that the League is also keen on designing and producing a number of educational and instructive publications and films, and engagingits communication platforms to introduce the epidemic, and show the ways to prevent it, the importance of quarantine, social distancing, and personal hygiene care.

It is noteworthy that the targeted countries in the first phase of the MWL’s initiatives, that included 16 countries are: Pakistan, Kashmir, South Africa, Malawi, Senegal, Chad, Djibouti, Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Spain, Italy and Serbia.
