CAIRO – 28 May 2017: Tourism promotional campaigns launched about Egypt in several Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain for a duration that lasts throughout the holy month of Ramadan till Eid, announced Hesham el-Demeiry, head of Tourism Development Authority.

The campaign aims to attract residents of Arab countries to spend the holidays of Eid and summer in Egypt.

Demeiry told Egypt Today that the media tools deployed in the campaign are TV ads in prominent Arab channels, digital campaigns, and outdoors.

Arab tourism to Egypt scored its highest rates throughout the last four months compared to the last seven years, recording a 30 percent increase above its rates in 2010.

According to the numbers given by Mohamed Abdel Gabar, the head of International Tourism sector in the Tourism Development Authority, to Egypt Today, tourism in Egypt witnessed growth, as Arab tourists increased by 19.6 percent summing up to 183.8 tourists in 2016. That growth in Arab tourism was a result of conducting a similar campaign last year as well.

Chinese and Ukrainian tourism also increased by 32 percent and 30 percent respectively compared to 2015.

The Central Institute of Mobilization and Statistics issued a report last year stating that the number of tourists to Egypt has decreased by 51.7 percent declining from 894.6 to 431.8 tourists.

Russia had the highest share in that decline by 61 percent, followed by the United Kingdom by 12.9 percent, Germany by 10 percent, and Italy by 4.2 percent.
