CAIRO – 28 December 2017: Egyptian winter tends to be foggy and rainy. In order to keep you safe on the road, Careem released a guide to insure your safety on the road.

The simple set of tips will insure your safety on the road and everyone else’s.

Safety driving tips for foggy conditions:

1. Use fog lights or dipped headlights when visibility drops below 100 meters (about the size of a football pitch).
2. Don’t use hazard warning lights.
3. Know when to pull over.
4. Slow down and keep your distance.
5. Turn your heater on to keep the windows clear.
6. Do not be pressurized into driving faster – be late, not hurt!

Safety driving tips for heavy rain or flooding:

1. Slow down and keep your distance – stopping distances can double in the rain. Try to keep at least a 5-second gap from the car in front.
2. Use dipped headlights, not rear fog lights.
3. If driving through a large puddle and your steering feels light you could be aquaplaning. Ease off the accelerator, keep the wheels pointing forward and avoid braking to regain full control.
4. If you skid, gently steer in the direction you want to go. Do not slam on the brakes.
5. Do not be pressurized into driving faster – be late, not hurt!!
