Over 66K Indian tourists visited Egypt in past 9 months: CAPMAS

CAIRO – 26 November 2017: The Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed that the number of Indian tourists who visited Egypt during the past nine months reached 66,356.

The statistics increased by 43 percent compared to last year, the number of tourists in September specifically reached 7,650, which represents an increase of 46.2 percent compared to the same month in 2016.

The Tourism Promotion Authority, headed by Hisham al-Demery, has started increasing their presence in the Indian market to promote tourism to Egypt.

They announced that they have organized a tourism convoy to visit the four Indian cities of Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata from January 22-25, 2018.

They will also participate in two exhibitions scheduled for January and February 2018, with the aim of attracting visitors during the Indian holiday season of April and May.

This comes after the success of the tourism expedition held last May, 10 Egyptian tourism companies visited four Indian cities: Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and New Delhi.

The Egyptian delegation met more than 450 tourist companies who operate in the Indian market, in order to increase tourism to Egypt.

Ismail Amer, head of the tourist office in Mumbai, stated that the tourism movement from the India to Egypt shows an increase of 34.2 percent in the first quarter of this year, revealing also that last March the percentage jumped to 54.6 percent. He expects Indian tourism to show a further increase during the coming period.

The two big Indian tourism exhibitions due to take place in January and February of next year are: OTM in Mumbai and SATTE in New Delhi.

Last year, OTM hosted 1154 exhibitors from 60 countries, including 12 Egyptian tourist companies.

SATTE hosted 750 exhibitors from 35 countries, 28 Indian states attended.
