Cairo – 22 September 2017: “Other people will call me a rebel, but I just feel like I'm living my life and doing what I want to do. Sometimes people call that rebellion, especially when you're a woman.” – Joan Jett.

Joan Marie Larkin was born on September 22, 1958. Her stage name is Joan Jett. She is a true power house, being a singer, songwriter, composer, musician, record producer and occasional actress.

What she is best known for is when she was the front woman of her band Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, with the rock and roll anthem "I Love Rock 'n Roll", which was number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 from March 20 to May 1, 1982. Preceded success came with the Runaways, including the hit song "Cherry Bomb". Her other popular hits included "Bad Reputation", "Crimson and Clover", "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)", "Light of Day", "I Hate Myself for Loving You" and "Dirty Deeds".

She is the original feminist icon in a male-dominated music scene, which led to her being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

Fun Facts:

• Jett has a mezzo-soprano vocal range.

• She has been described as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll and is also known as the Godmother of Punk.

Another Quote for the road:

“You got nothing to lose. You don't lose when you lose fake friends.”
