With Ramadan approaching, we embrace the holy month with open arms, searching for inner peace, hoping to turn a new leaf and reach spirituality. Ramadan is also known to be the month of family gatherings, seeing distant relatives, and having a good time together. Still, unfortunately, the circle of life comes hard and takes a beloved family member, leaving us only to remember the good memories and their good reputations, with that in mind, Ramadan can be a very difficult time to spend, especially if that lost is recent. So how can you not dwell on sadness and try to properly embrace the holy month? Well, grief is something that you can easily avoid, so it might be hard not to reminisce over the memories you made with that person, but the least you can do is honor their memories through acts of kindness that will stand the test of time.

Donate Zakat & Sadaka
There are lots of charities, hospitals, and orphanages that constantly ask for donations for patients and people in need.
From children’s hospitals to people who suffer from burns, cancer patients, gharimen and gharimat, you can start donating to any institute as zakat or sadaka.
You can begin the donation process during Ramadan and continue to do so the rest of the year, this month you donated to a hospital, next month to an orphanage,..etc

Give Out Their Clothes to Homeless Shelter
While it’s harder to let go of clothes that were previously owned by a family member or friend who passed away, because of their sentiment value or simply because they carry their scent, there are clothes that you can keep and others you can hand out for the unfortunate and the ones who are in need.
By doing so, you are allowing their memories to live on, as each piece, now worn by someone else, has the potential to bring warmth and joy, transforming loss into a legacy of compassion and generosity. In this way, you can honor their memory while contributing positively to the lives of others.

Hand Out Meals
Prepare and distribute meals to those who are less fortunate. You can cook meals at home and share them with the homeless or those in your community who might be struggling. This reflects the communal spirit of Ramadan and ensures that no one feels alone during this time.

Read and Share Quranic Verses
Consider reading Quranic verses or prayers in their memory. Sharing these passages with family can create a moment of peace and remembrance together.

Make a Donation in Their Name
If there is a cause that your loved one had cared about, consider donating in their name. This will help ensure that their values continue to have a positive impact on others, keeping their spirit alive through your actions.
