Survey in Cairo: advertising can light the way to safer cities

inDrive, the global mobility and services platform, and one of the leading applications for hilling the car in Egypt, conducted a unique marketing special project to address the issue of safety in Egyptian cities. The company installed brightly lit billboards in strategic locations, transforming them into pick-up points where people could wait for their taxi in a well-lit and safe environment.

By combining the power of advertising with practical safety measures, inDrive aimed to create a safer atmosphere for its customers and the general public.


During implementation of the illuminated billboard project, inDrive surveyed thousands of Egyptian residents to gather their opinions on street safety and the impact of the billboards. The results revealed that many felt uncomfortable in dark areas (27.7%), places with a bad reputation (19.1%), empty streets (28.7%), and crowded areas with strangers (24.4%).

When asked about their comfort level in unlit areas of the city at night, 45.3% reported feeling uncomfortable, and 29.4% said they felt scared.

The introduction of illuminated billboards as pick-up points significantly improved the respondents' perception of safety. 95.4% felt at least somewhat comfortable waiting for their car at these locations.

Additionally, 45.3% of respondents expressed a strong interest in having more of these illuminated billboards installed in their areas, stating that it would make them feel much better while waiting for a ride. This unique finding highlights a new trend in the market, where people are not only accepting but also actively requesting more advertising, as it contributes to their safety and well-being.
