CAIRO - 28 September 2022: Among fruits that grow in Upper Egypt city of Aswan is the mango, which is the first fruit to go to the market during the summer season, as it ripens early due to high temperature of the governorate.

Fares Village in Aswan is famous for the best types of mangoes because it is located away from industrial pollutants, and near the Nile River.

Mahmoud Ibrahim, known as “Haggag al-Farsi”, a mango grower and merchant in Aswan, spend his day inside his field, which is covered by mango trees, where he takes care of it to get the best quality of the mango crop.

Hajjaj Al-Farsi, however, spoke about climate change and how it affected the production of the mango crop this year, especially after the end of the mango season with the end of the summer season, although Aswan rarely witnesses weather fluctuations during the summer.

Hajjaj said that the Aswan mango is affected by the high temperatures in the governorate, which caused its rapid ripening and became the first crop to come down in the markets before the rest of the other governorates, as it begins to harvest starting in June of each year.

A mango farmer and trader added that this year was very hot, which caused damages to part of the crops at times that witness fluctuations in the climate.

He explained that Aswan has distinct and good varieties of mango types such as: "Sadiqa, Owais, Al-Tumi, Al-Fons, Al-Taymur Al-Aswany" and so on, and with the diversity of these varieties, the farmer must make a great effort to produce the product in the best quality.

He benefits from the production of this crop as it helps him to provide a decent living for him and his family.

In this context, Mohamed Othman Al-Sebal, a mango farmer in the village of Fares, affiliated to the Kom Ombo Center in Aswan Governorate, said that the village of Fares is one of the most famous villages in Egypt for mango cultivation, as it is the first crop of the village, ensuring that the clean environment of the village that is free from environmental and industrial pollutants makes it distinguished.

He also added that the villagea also enjoys a good position overlooking the Nile River in the far upper part of Egypt.

He went on explaining that farmers start harvesting the mango crop in Aswan earlier than the rest of Egypt's governorates, due to the high temperatures in southern Egypt, specifically in Aswan Governorate.

Some traders buy mango trees from farmers during the month of April, as the harvest begins in June and continues until the end of July and the beginning of August.
