The best thing you can wear is a beautiful smile, and to smile confidently, oral health is integral. Over the recent past years, cosmetic dentistry has helped many gain confidence in their smiles with an array of treatments such as veneers, whitening, gum contouring, and a lot more. But, besides the aesthetic aspect, looking after your teeth is essential, not only for how your smile looks but because oral hygiene affects your overall health. Here are 5 tips that will help you keep a beautiful and healthy smile.
 
1. Floss daily.
Even if you use the best toothbrush, this alone is not enough and you will still need to floss your teeth daily. Floss reaches parts that the toothbrush can’t reach and helps to remove plaque and tooth decay and gingivitis. Also, mouthwash is important for maintaining good hygiene. 
 
2. Buy a quality toothbrush.
Electric toothbrushes have shown more effectiveness in several functions such as removing plaque and keeping your gum healthy. Also, you need to brush your teeth at least twice a day to avoid plaque hardening into tartar. Additionally, regular brushing makes your teeth whiter and healthier
 
3. Limit your intake of coffee, black tea, and cola.
Drinks like coffee, black tea, and cola stain the teeth, and a buildup of these drinks will your tooth enamel get darker. Additionally, soda can cause teeth erosion in addition to other problems that will affect your teeth on the long run. Instead, drink plenty of water to discourage tooth decay and keep your teeth flushed clean.
 
4. Decrease your food consumption and eat healthier alternatives for your teeth.
The bacteria that form cavities mainly feed on sugar, that’s why people who eat lots of sweets are more prone to have cavities. Instead eat foods rich in fluoride, calcium, and vitamins A, C, D, and K. Also, foods like apples, yogurt, grapes, and lemon can help keep your teeth whiter and healthier.
 
5. Visit your dentist at least once every 6 months.
Do not limit your visits to the dentists only to the time when you are having a problem with your teeth or when you are suffering from a toothache. Go for regular checkups and never skip routine cleaning. This is essential to detect any problem early on and also because an untreated problem left ignored can result in bigger and more critical problems.
