CAIRO - 16 February 2021:Egypt’s Zawya cinema is currently  screening “The Third Wife” movie.

Entrapped in a cocoon of traditions, 14-year-old newlywed May must realize that breaking free will come at a high price.

Synopsis: 

In 19th century rural Vietnam, 14-year-old May becomes the third wife of wealthy landowner Hung. Soon she learns that she can only gain status by asserting herself as a woman who can give birth to a male child. May’s hope to change her status turns into a real and tantalizing possibility when she gets pregnant. Faced with forbidden love and its devastating consequences, May finally comes to an understanding of the brutal truth: the options available to her are few and far between.

 

About Ash Mayfair: 

Born in Vietnam, Ash Mayfair studied in the US and the UK where she received a BA in English Literature from Oxford University. Moreover, she holds a post-grad degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and an MFA in film-making from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Having a strong educational background paved the way for Ash to break into the filmmaking world as she worked on several plays and short films in the US and the UK. She worked at the National Theatre in London as an assistant director and in off-Broadway productions in New York as a director. Her short films were present in several prestigious and renowned film festivals, including The Silver Man, Sam, Walking the Dead, Heart of a Doll and Grasshopper which won the Audience Award at the Un Pays Un Film Festival in 2012. The Third Wife is the director’s first feature film.
