CAIRO - 1 February 2021: Dr. Khaled El Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, received in his office at the Ministry's headquarters in Abbasia, Eng. Naguib Sawiris, Chairman and CEO of Orascom Investment Holding, to discuss the latest developments in the project to operate and raise the efficiency of tourism services provided to visitors in the Giza Pyramids area.

During the meeting, it was agreed that another open-air restaurant will be opened in the area before the holy month of Ramadan, which will be designed in a simple style of natural materials without any construction according to the requirements of the archaeological area.

During the meeting, Eng. Naguib Sawiris indicated that a number of environmentally friendly electric buses will be used in the path of this archaeological area, as the Engineering Consultation Center of the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University approved the technical specifications and field tests of the electric bus, for which the trial operation has begun last October, with the opening of the first tourist restaurant in the Panorama area of the Pyramids Plateau.

According to the Giza Pyramids development project, these buses will be operated on the visit route after preventing the entry of vehicles and buses inside the archaeological area, through six main stations starting from the Visitor Center station, passing through a panorama station, then Menkaure station, Khufu station, then Khafre station, ending at The Sphinx Station before returning to the visitor center again.

It should be noted that the project to develop the Giza pyramids area and raise the efficiency of services in it has been completed engineering wise, which was implemented by the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces with government funding, and preparations are now underway to start implementing the project, provided that the visit to the area is from the new visitors' entrance from Fayoum Road.

It is worth noting that, last October, the restaurant "Nine Pyramids Lounge" was opened, the first tourist restaurant in the Panorama area of the Pyramids Plateau - without any building or constructions according to the requirements of the archaeological area - as it is a simple wooden building and pillows spread on the ground, Bedouin style in a unique location overlooking all of the Giza Pyramids.
