CAIRO - 16 January 2021:The original external gate of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir is preserved in the museum garden until the parade of Royal Mummies and will be re-installed after the event

Sabah Abdel Razzak, Director General of the Egyptian Museum, confirmed  that the original external iron gate of the Egyptian Museum is currently preserved in the museum garden until the parade of Royal Mummies moves from there to transfer the mummies their permanent display in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat.

She added that the gate will be reinstalled again in its place after the event.

She said that the original gate was dismantled to preserve it and facilitate the exit of the parade of mummies, as studies indicated that the distance between the two sides of the door was too narrow after it was opened, making it difficult for the parade to pass through, so the original gate was dismantled by experts and another iron gate was manufactured temporarily to allow the parade to pass easily and to preserve the original one.

Abdel Razzak indicated that the museum's original exterior gate had been restored last year, for the first time since it was damaged in 2011.
