CAIRO - 12 January 2021: After the Prime Minister’s decree last December to form and organize the Board of Directors of the Grand Egyptian Museum under the chairmanship of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, the first meeting of this Board was held on January 11.
 
 
The Board includes experts in the fields of antiquities, tourism, economics, investment and management.
 
 
Khaled el-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, began the meeting by affirming that the Grand Egyptian Museum project is one of the most important cultural projects in the world and that it will be an independent economic body.
 
 
He also thanked everyone who participated in the project from its inception until now, extending a welcome to the new members of the Board.
 
 
During the meeting, a number of important issues were discussed, most notably the approval of the museum's budget for the fiscal year 2021/2022 AD, and the approval of the use of Japanese experts in various fields in the museum in cooperation with JICA.
 
 
Atef Moftah, General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum project and the surrounding area, presented the progress of the project so far.
 
 
He said that the completion rate until 2016 was 17% and now it has reached 97%, in addition to the development of the surrounding area of the project, which includes upgrading the efficiency of roads and re-planning their routes.
 
 
He also presented the latest progress in the negotiation and contracting process with the affiliation that will provide and operate services in the museum. He added that it will be selected during the month of January.
 
 
Counselor Adham al-Ganzouri, the legal advisor for the Grand Egyptian Museum project, discussed the legislative tools from internal and organizational regulations to be issued based on Law No. (9) of 2020 regarding the reorganization of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority.
 
 
Al-Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at the Grand Egyptian Museum, presented the progress in the relocation and restoration of antiquities and the philosophy of the museum display scenario, he also presented the plan of relocation of antiquities to the museum exhibition halls.
