CAIRO – 8 December 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities clarified that the circulating photos of Kom al-Shuqafa archeological site are old and do not reflect its current status.
Regarding the photos circulating showing garbage in some places near the archeological site of Kom al-Shuqafa in Alexandria, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities Ayman Ashmawy said that they are old and do not reflect the current status of the site.
He explained that Kom al-Shuqafa is considered one of the most important archaeological sites open to visitation in Alexandria and it gets continuous attention from the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
Moreover, he pointed out that this site is an open museum that contains tombs and monuments discovered in many places in Alexandria, which makes this site distinctive.
Also, he said that the groundwater reduction project, which is the latest work of the Council in the region, helps protect the tombs making the site attract more visitors.
