CAIRO – 29 November 2020: It was recently raised that the owner of a property in Giza refused to post a sign for Egypt’s Ministry of Culture’s project “Aash Hona” (Lived Here), bearing the name of the famed late artist Shadia, claiming that the building was inhabited by other celebrities who are more deserving than her to have their names on the sign.

Mohamed Abu Saada, head of the National Organization for Urban Harmony, confirmed that the a sign was designed bearing the name of Shadia to be included in the “Lived Here” project, to commemorate her and introduce her to the newer generations.

Saada confirmed that the owner of the property where Shadia lived did indeed refuse to post the sign bearing her name.

Saada indicated that the urban harmony organization will try to persuade the owner and the union of occupants in coordination with the governorate to post the sign, as more than 430 signs have been posted in several other buildings so far, and that incident is the first of its kind, where the organization faces a refusal from the owner of the property, which is a very incomprehensible  reaction, according to Saada.

It is worth noting that the “Lived Here” project aims to immortalize the names of creative people in all political, economic, artistic and literary fields, by placing a sign bearing an electronic application that includes information about each famous individual, and placing the sign bearing the name and address on the door of the person’s home for everyone who passes to see.
