CAIRO - 20 November 2020: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities a Khaled el Enany, Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and the governor of Cairo inaugurated Imam al-Shafi’i Mosque after its restoration where the Friday prayers were held.

The Imam al-Shafi’i Mosque was built during the regin of Khedive Muhammad Ali Tawfiq in 1399 AH/1892 AD.

 

It follows the style of covered mosques and is made of limestone.

 

The mosque houses a wooden roof with a square sistrum in the middle as well as an attached Quba dating back to the Ayyubid era.
