CAIRO – 30 July 2020: Every year on July 30, the world celebrates the World Friendship Day or also known as the International Friendship Day. It is a global day in which friendship is celebrated to realize its usefulness and importance as one of the noble and valuable feelings in human life all over the world.

The World Friendship Day was approved by the United Nations General Assembly. It was adopted during the sixty-fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly held on April 27, 2011.

It has been borne in mind that friendship between countries, cultures and individuals can become an inspiration for peace efforts. It is an opportunity to build bridges between societies, confronting and challenging any stereotypes, preserving human ties, and respecting cultural diversity.

The General Assembly of the United Nations called on all member states, organizations of the United Nations’ system and other international and regional organizations, in addition to civil society -including non-governmental organizations and individuals-, to celebrate the World Friendship Day in an appropriate manner, in accordance with culture and other circumstances or customs appropriate to their local and national communities and regional levels, and also through educational and public awareness activities.
