CAIRO – 19 July 2020: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina announced that the library will receive a limited number of its researchers only (postgraduate students) in August, after Eid al-Adha Holidays.

The gradual opening comes after over 100 days of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Library indicated on its official website that it will take into account that the occupancy rate does not exceed 20 percent of its total capacity, and will take into consideration all the precautionary measures, adding that the library will open its doors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in a statement, pointed out that it will announce the details of the required precautions.

It is noteworthy that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina announced in March the suspension of all events, seminars, conferences, parties and exhibitions, based on the decisions of Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to confront the novel coronavirus.

The library noted on its official website at the time that Mostafa el-Feki, director of the Library, had decided to stop all activities, seminars, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and the Planetarium shows until further notice in this regard.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina presented a number of online activities, as an extension of the "Maak Fel Bait" [Together At Home] initiative launched by the Cultural Communication Sector of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. This included a varied cultural program of lectures, art events, and live tours from within the museums and exhibitions of the Library of Alexandria, broadcast directly on the library’s channel on YouTube, and its official page on Facebook.
