How did Zahi Hawass spend his time during imposed house quarantine?

CAIRO - 8 June 2020: Renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass said that during the period of the state-imposed house quarantine he had his autobiography finalized and handed it over to a publishing house, in preparation for its printing.

Hawass added that he is currently completing the Pyramids Encyclopedia. Three parts have already been completed before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and three other parts of the 8-volume encyclopedia will be completed within a month from now.

Also, Hawass said in statements made to the press that he is committed to staying at home, working on his writings and articles until about 4 p.m. and spending the rest of the day watching the news on T.V and spending time with his family.

Hawas was born in a small village near Damietta, Egypt in 1947. He dreamed of becoming a lawyer.

However, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Arts in Greek and Roman Antiquities from Alexandria University in 1967.

At the age of 33, Hawass received a Fulbright Fellowship to attend the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to study Egyptology.

He then obtained a master’s degree in Arts in Egyptology and Syrian-Palestinian Antiquities in 1983. He obtained his PhD in Egyptology in 1987.

Moreover, Hawass was appointed as chief inspector of the Giza Plateau, but he quit in 1993. He was then appointed as chief inspector in early 1994.

In 1998, Hawass was appointed as director of the Giza Plateau and in 2002, he was appointed as the secretary- general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

During his work at the Giza Pyramids, he discovered the tombs of the pyramid builders in Giza and the Valley of the Golden Mummies. He was appointed as the first minister of state for antiquities.

The veteran archaeologist has numerous publications in Egyptology, including "The Curse of the Pharaohs", "My Adventures with Mummies", "King Tutankhamun" and "Treasures from the Tombs".
