CAIRO - 20 March 2020:An awareness campaign to protect the employees in the tourism sector, Egyptian and foreign visitors to museums and archeological sites all over the country, has been launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population.

This awareness campaign comes in light of the precautionary measures to counter the novel coronavirus.

Iman Zidan, Assistant of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Investment and Financial Resources Development, explained that according to the awareness campaign, a collection of 1000 posters, panels and brochures on the precautionary measures and safety instructions issued by the World Health Organization to fight against the virus were distributed among all employees of the ministry and others who are working in the tourism sector, and installed at the entrances of museums and archeological sites.

Gloves, masks, and sanitizers were also distributed among the employees at the tickets kiosks and security guards at the Giza Plateau, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Salah al-Din citadel and the Saqqara necropolis as a first phase.

Other batches will be distributed among the rest of the sites and museums in succession.

She pointed out that the Ministry’s administrative premises in Abbasiya, Giza and Zamalek areas were sterilized while surfaces and places in connection with visitors and public are cleaned and disinfected for several times during the day with approved sanitizers to ensure the safety of visitors and employees.
