CAIRO - 25 December 2019: On Saturday Dec. 28, 2019, the Museum of Islamic Arts in Bab al-Khalq will hold a special celebration for the 116th anniversary of its inauguration.

This is in cooperation with the Department of Cultural Development and Community Communication and the Cultural Palaces Authority.

Head of the museums sector Moamen Othman said that the Museum of Islamic Art is the largest Islamic museum in the world. It includes a variety of Islamic arts from India, China, Arabia, the Levant, Egypt, North Africa and Andalusia. It is one of the most important Egyptian museums.

Othman further explained that the celebrations include many activities for different age groups, in addition to a number of educational workshops for children, including a workshop to form solid models from Aswan clay, and a workshop to implement the decorations of ceramic tiles through the museum's holdings, and another workshop to teach children Arabic calligraphy and finally an artistic show for puppets presented by the artist Rahma Mahgoub with the educational department team.

Othman further indicated that the celebration includes the opening of two temporary exhibitions; the first exhibition is of Islamic antiquities, entitled "From the Museum's Memory", which presents the most important and oldest artifacts in the museum, followed by the opening of the Forum of Artists of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in its second edition, in cooperation with the Department of Cultural Development and Community Communication.

For her part, Director of the Department of Cultural Development and Community Communication Rasha Kamal said that the Forum of Artists of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities sheds light on the various artistic talents within the ministry, which range from plastic arts to literary works, playing and singing. It will be attended by 45 artists, and includes 100 artworks in various fields. It is scheduled to continue for 10 days and a group of workshops and lectures will be held on the sidelines of the exhibition. The celebration also includes an artistic presentation of the Nile Ensemble for Folklore Instruments, a Tanoura Dance, a theatrical show of puppets designed by Olla Bashir, depicting different Islamic characters of various eras.
