CAIRO - 3 December 2019: Under the supervision of artistic director Issam Ezzat, Forsan el-Sharq Heritage Group presents its new production “Raya Wa Sekina” directed by Karima Bedair. The play will stage on Dec. 3-5 at 8 p.m. at El-Gomhoria Theater.

The play tells the story of the first women murderers in modern Egyptian history, Raya and Sekina, presented in new attire, which relies on psychoanalysis and research into the economic conditions and cultural climate at the time.

The play highlights the violence they have inflicted on their victims and introduces the story through modern theatrical dances and a few short and dramatic scenes.

Raya and Sekina used to lure women in Alexandria with false promises, eventually suffocating them, stealing their jewelry and burying them at their home. They were the first females in Egyptian history to be handed the death penalty.

Forsan el-Sharq heritage group was established by the Ministry of Culture in 2009 to present redrafted Egyptian and Arab heritage through innovative kinetic designs.

The group was then enlisted within the groups of the Egyptian Opera House, presenting their first play titled “El-Share’ el-Aazam” in 2010. The group’s performances were well-received and admired by the audience, achieving great success.
