CAIRO - 4 August 2019: The Ministry of Antiquities announced convening on August 4 with the directors of the five museums of the European Museums Alliance participating in the development project of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

The meeting will be held to discuss the latest developments, will tackle the commencement of the first phase of the development process and will identify operational steps. The alliance consists of five European museums: the Egyptian Museum in Turin, Italy; the Louvre Museum in France; the British Museum in England; the Berlin Museum in Germany; the Leiden Museum in the Netherlands and the French Institute of Oriental Antiquities.

The convention is part of a series of pre-project development meetings held within the framework of the Ministry of Antiquities plan to develop a future strategic vision for the project in accordance with international standards. The plan aims at developing the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to qualify it to be placed on the UNESCO's World Heritage List. The first development stage is to reassemble the museum's display scenario, the main entrance halls and the royal tombs of Tanis.

Among the halls chosen for reassembly in cooperation with the Dutch Museum are the round hall, hall 48, the pre-and early families' halls located between the round hall and the main entrance, and hall 43. Also, the Old Kingdom Hall located west of the round hall, halls 46, 47 and 51 were chosen in cooperation with the Egyptian Museum in Turin, in addition to the late Roman and Greek hall located east of the round hall, hall 49, and 50 which were chosen in cooperation with the British Museum.

Furthermore, the main entrance halls and the tombs of the Royal Tannis were chosen by the Egyptian Museum in cooperation with the Louvre Museum as a center for display for Tutankhamun belongings, which will be transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum in 2020.

The first and third working packages define a framework for the museum's display so that the strategic orientation of the Egyptian Museum is easy to clarify, selecting certain artifacts to support this framework. The pieces will be subject to detailed evaluation of preservation and restoration. The first and third working packages provide an upgrade to lighting if necessary, in addition to offering a training in photography using modern equipment for documenting the current state of archaeological artifacts for conservation and archiving purposes, providing high-quality images for research and future scientific publications.
