BERLIN, March 31 (MENA) - Egypt will take part in the 10th Arab Film Festival Berlin (ALFILM) which will open on April 3.

Several Egyptian short films - produced under an Egyptian-German cooperation program - will be screened during the week-long festival, according to a statement issued by ALFILM.

ALFILM is, in Germany, the largest festival that provides a platform to the diverse Arabic cinema. The festival focuses on artistically and thematically outstanding films from the Arab World. ALFILM is a non-commercial film festival that has been organized yearly since 2009 by the non-profit organization makan – Center for Arab Film, Arts and Culture.

ALFILM presents feature films, documentaries and short movies coming from or produced in Arab countries at different venues in Berlin – many of which are German or European premieres. The Official Selection gather a selection of new releases (fiction, documentary and short movies) from the last three years.

The Spotlignt section includes contemporary and historical Arabic films which are curated thematically, as for instance “Palestinian Cinema” (2009), “Migration” (2010), “Humor in Arab film” (2011), “Youth’s culture and political change” (2012) and “Of flesh and light – the body in the Arabic cinema” (2014).

Moreover, the festival devotes extensive retrospectives to the work of eminent filmmakers and artists from the Arabic cinema, panel discussions, performances, lectures as well as children screenings.
