CAIRO – 7 March 2018: Through its cultural and intellectual activities, the Cairo Opera House celebrates International Women's Day (IWD) and the Spring of Poets Festival under the supervision of Magdy Saber, acting chairman of the Cairo Opera House. The celebration will be held under the title "Egyptian Poets" on Wednesday, March 7 on the small stage.

Presented by critic Gamal Hadad, Cairo Opera House will be hosting Egyptian poets like Sherine El Adawy, Hanan Shaheen, Abeer Zaki, Effat Barakat and Mervat Taher, amongst others, to discuss some of their significant poetic work. They were honored and received various prizes for their poetic works, such as the “El Kershi” prize won by the Adawy, the honoring of Hanan Shaheen at “Egypt’s Poets” conference, and others.

On International Women's Day, the world highlights all women achievements in various fields, including social, political and economic. In some countries, such as China, Russia and Cuba, women take this day off from work. The first global celebration of Women's Day was in Paris in 1945, although some researchers claim that International Women's Day resulted from women strikes in the United States.
