First German music school to open in Egypt

CAIRO – 15 January 2018: Rahn Schulen Kairo (Rahn Schools in Cairo) has announced the opening of a German music school in Cairo as the first German music education establishment in Egypt.

Rahn Schools institution explained that the upcoming music school aims to become a respected example for musical education in Egypt, with the goal of encouraging young Egyptian students to pursue the musical arts on an educational level, according official press release by Rahn Schools Institution.

Musical education will take place under the supervision of Egyptian maestro Ahmed el-Saedi, the principal conductor of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. The artistic and musical consultant for the school is stated to be Helgid Schmidt, former piano instructor at the Leipzig University in Germany.

Rahn Schools was established in 2014 as an extension of al-Ritaj schools in Cairo. The school distinguishes its educational approach through its concept of combining music and education, which is referred to on the school’s official website as being an idea “Made in Germany”. The school’s curriculum is based on that of the German school curriculum of the German state of Brandenburg.

Added to its mission and approach are its principles as a non-profit institution and its links to Egyptian and German cultural exchange and cooperation. The school is also an affiliate of a number of German and German-Egyptian cultural institutions.
