CAIRO – 15 December 2017: Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Arab Music and Singing will perform an Um Kolthoum tribute night at Sayed Darwish Theater, Alexandria Opera House on December 17.

Conducted by Ehab Abdel Hamid, The Ensemble will perform various selections from Um Kolthoum most celebrated songs, such as "Fakarony" (Remind Me), "Alf Leila Wi Leila" (1000 and one Nights), and "Haiart A'lby Ma'ak" (My Heart is Confused).

Founded in 2004, the ensemble performed various concerts in Alexandria and Cairo. They have performed in many national events organized by Egyptian Opera Houses.

Um Kolthoum is one of the most celebrated Arabic singers internationally and nationally, she was referred to as "Kakwab Al Sharq" (the Star of the East).

She was born on December 18, 1898, and died on February 3, 1975. She introduced more than 1500 compositions and six films like "Fatma", "Aida" and "Salama".

She managed to cooperate with the leading poets and composers of the golden age of Arab music such as Ahmed Ramy, Mohamed El Qasabgi, and Zakaria Ahmed.
