CAIRO – 17 October 2017: On Tuesday Bibliotheca Alexandrina will be screening the historical American movie "The Sultan and the Saint" at the BACC small theater from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..

Directed by Alexander Kronemer, the film is set in the time of Crusades during the year 1219, when religious tensions were high and warfare between faiths was common.

Two men of faith, Sultan al-Kamel of Egypt and Saint Francis of Assisi from Italy, meet in Damietta and begin to form a friendship that transcends their religious differences. The two come together through mutual respect as men of faith and prove that coexistence and dialogue are reasonable alternatives to warfare.

"The Sultan and the Saint" stars Zack Beyer as Sultan al-Kamel, Alexander McPherson as Saint Francis and is narrated by Jeremy Irons.

The film screening will be followed up by a discussion featuring various intellectuals such as director Sandra Nashaat, journalist Hamdy Rizk, Catholic Church spokesman father Rafiq Gereish and Al-Azhar University's dean of the School of Languages and Dialogue Kamal Boreiqa.

Other attendees include historian and president of the Alexandria Sister City Committee Maged Farag, father William Faltas, the head of Saint Catherine's Cathedral and convent, and lastly a Skype interview with the director of the film.
