CAIRO – 16 October 2017: The first Arab caricature summit kicks off in Luxor from Sunday to Wednesday to celebrate choosing Luxor as a capital of Arab culture.

The forum is under the sponsorship of the General Authority for Cultural Palaces in cooperation with the Egyptian Caricature Association.

There are more than 75 caricatures drawn by 75 artists from 15 Arab states, including Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia, Bahrain and Jordan.

On the sidelines of the forum, the cartoonist Mohamed Omar will be honored for his works, and there will also be workshops.

Luxor, chosen by UNESCO as this year's “Capital of Arabic Culture”, has gone well underway in providing a variety of musical and other performances this July.

A different Middle Eastern city gains the title each year as part of an initiative from the Arab League, in collaboration with UNESCO’s Cultural Capital program.

The initiative aims to promote Arab Culture internationally.
