CAIRO – 23 September 2017: Mozart’s comic opera “The Marriage of Figaro” was named the greatest Opera of all time by Opera singers in a poll conducted by BBC Magazine, which asked 172 of the world’s most famous living Opera singers.
One of the most performed Operas in history since it was composed in 1786, The Marriage of Figaro, also known as “Le nozze di Figaro” in Italian, was considered an instant success, with Mozart receiving five encores at the premiere.
Soprano Renée Fleming praised the Opera as a stunning look at human nature, telling BBC Magazine, “no matter how many times I sing this opera I am always completely stunned how little people have changed since Mozart’s time, in terms of relationships and the maneuvering they do.”
The poll spanned over 500 years of Opera overall, with Mozart being quite the popular choice.
