CAIRO – 22 September 2017: September 22 is the day that the American hit “Friends” TV comedy made its debut back in 1994, going on to run for 10 seasons and helping establish the careers of actors like Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox.
Set in New York City’s Manhattan, the show follows the lives of six adults in both work and home and their intertwining relationships. Aniston plays Rachel Green, a waitress at the coffee shop where all her friends meet. David Schwimmer plays Ross Geller, a paleontologist who forms a crush on Rachel and as the older brother of Cox’s character, Monica Geller, a chef with an obsessive desire for perfection.
Matt Le Blanc plays Joey Tribiani, is a small-time actor looking to hit it big and who isthe best pal of Chandler, played by Matthew Perry, a cigarette-addict and a businessman with a wisecracking attitude. Then there’s Lisa Kudrow, who plays Phoebe, a lovable airhead who dreams of becoming a famous musician and is encouraged by the other five to never give up, despite the fact that none of them expect her to find success.
Running for well over 10 years, the show was such a sensation that, by the time it ended on May 6, 2004, well over 50 million viewers tuned in for the finale, one of the largest audiences for any TV finale in history.
