CAIRO – 16 August 2017: The Thailand Cultural Festival kicked off Wednesday, featuring multi-disciplinary performances including theatre, music, and Thai folk arts.

Organized by the Embassy of Thailand in Egypt, the festival aims to enhance Thai-Egyptian bilateral cultural relations especially in exchanging folk arts.

Pervious Thai culture performances were organized in February with the Folk Arts team of Al Menya cultural centre awarded after its participation in the international festival of Folk Arts in Thailand.

El Sawy Culture Wheel will also organize a bazaar with several booths showcasing Thai cultural products and souvenirs to introduce the Thai culture and identity to the Egyptian audience.

The Thai folk culture is known for its diversity; and is influenced by the Indian and Chinese cultures. It is known for the magnificent ‘Khon,’ ‘Lakhon,’ and ‘Fawn’ dances that are performed with special movements by hands and feet.

The dancers are dressed in certain costumes as the statues inspired by the history of Thailand. Dance is the main dramatic and theatrical form in Thai culture and is a salient feature of the Thai identity.
