CAIRO – 16 August: Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the participation of Al Nour Wal Amal blind women Orchestra in Hong Kong earlier this week.

The orchestra travelled to Hong Kong to participate in an event organized by The Egyptian Asian American African European Australian Friendship Association that ran between August 1 and August 3.

Described as a “source of pride to Egypt”, the orchestra, managed to perform a number of western classical compositions for prominent composers including Pytor Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and Georges Bizet, according to a statement by the Culture Ministry.

Established in 1981, Al Nour We Al Amal Orchestra is the only blind women orchestra in the world, it was founded in Al Nour we Al Amal Association which is a specialized Music institute established for blind women in 1961.

The first international tour for the orchestra began in 1988, where they later took upon performing concerts in a big number of European cities. This year’s tour is the first one for the orchestra in Hong Kong, China.

The orchestra has been led by the late composer Ali Osman Al-Haj who passed away earlier this year; however the orchestra has been one of his major milestones.

Osman conducted performances for the orchestra over a decade ago. He was

in the recent 26th edition of the Citadel Festival that launched on August 12 alongside with the late violinist and orchestra leader Basma Saad.
