CAIRO - 3 August 2017: The Ministry of Antiquities has started the third phase of the historic Cairo revival project, a development project that started its first phase in November 2014 in cooperation with UNESCO.

Mohamed Abdel Aziz, general manager of the project, stated in a press release that the ministry has finished preparing a complete vision for the urban revitalization and development project for historic Cairo districts and contracted with the Antiquities and Environment Engineering Center at Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering as general consultants for the project. The center contracted with a group of up to 40 experts, all specialists in fields needed for the project.

He explained that the third phase includes preparing studies to set the managerial, economic, constructional, legal and cultural bases that are harmonized with Cairo’s national and international heritage.

Abdel Aziz continued that one of the most important aims of the project is to set up economic and investment programs that create new investment opportunities and jobs, and activate the handicraft and small industries connected with the landmark, which will attract the original population to return to the district and push the process of social development. He pointed out the importance of having national and international financial and scientific support for the success of the programs, besides setting the general plan for marketing and promotional programs for the project.
