Short documentary THE MIRACLE OF LIFE.
Marking its debut on the festival circuit, Sabrine Khoury’s short experimental documentary THE MIRACLE OF LIFE will hold its world premiere as part of the 8th Beirut International Women Film Festival’s Short Experimental Competition from April 27th to May 3rd.
The film follows the emotional and physical journey of a Palestinian mother-to-be in the Netherlands. Through intimate reflections, she confronts pain, uncertainty, fear of bodily changes, and an identity crisis, all while challenging societal norms around pregnancy and motherhood. Set against the backdrop of the Gaza War, her continuous questioning adds depth to her journey.
Commenting on the film, the director shared, “I discovered I was pregnant in September 2023. It was a planned pregnancy, and I was happy and excited about this new journey; however, that joy was overshadowed by pain and questions.”
“This film is born from these intense and conflicting emotions. It seeks to explore the complex realities of pregnancy and motherhood against the backdrop of the war in Gaza while questioning the legitimacy of my own feelings. I truly hope to honor the resilience and strength of women navigating these profound experiences,” she added.
A joint production between Palestine and the Netherlands, THE MIRACLE OF LIFE is written, directed, and edited by Sabrine Khoury, produced by Nawl Productions, and lensed by Rashed Rashed, with Maen El Ghoul as music composer and Sami Merib as sound designer.
