CAIRO - 15 JULY 2017: The summer hit, “Despacito”, is the first non-English song to crawl up to the top 100 list since 1996’s anthem, Macarena.
“Despacito”, recorded by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featured Justin Bieber, whose part was originally intended to be sung by Nicky Jam. The song's booming success is attributed to the popularity of Latin songs and singers, including Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez and many more.
Quartz Media also argued that the success of “Despacito” is a byproduct of the popularity of Zumba, a dance workout primarily integrating Latin Music. “Despacito” is Justin Beiber’s first Latin song since he started his career.
Justin Beiber started his career after a talent manager watched his music covers on Youtube in 2008. His hits at the initial phases of his career were “Baby” and “Eenie Meenie Miney Mo”. Other hit singles include “Boyfriend”, “Love Yourself”, “What Do You Mean” and “Cold Water”.
